Heritage Homes / EnerQuality

May 3, 2007

Reid’s Heritage Homes first released Summerside, its Energy Star Qualified Coastal Living community in Port Elgin, in early 2006. Since its opening, visitors have quickly fallen in love with the luxurious designs that effectively combine fashion and functionality. Each model has been carefully crafted to surpass homeowners’ expectations and exceed traditional building standards.

Each ENERGY STAR qualified home is performance tested, third party verified and government backed to ensure it is energy efficient. These homes are approximately 30% more energy efficient than those built to minimum Ontario building code requirements. As a result, they are more environmentally friendly, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 3 tonnes a year.

“As part of Reid’s Heritage Homes’ ongoing program to promote better building practices and raise environmental awareness, we are proud to offer ENERGY STAR qualified homes,” said Dan Murawsky, Regional Manager of Reid’s Heritage Homes - Bruce Region. “The benefits extend far beyond the homebuilding industry. The environment is aided through the conservation of resources, while homeowners enjoy reduced operating costs and healthier, more comfortable homes!”

In addition to tighter construction, each home contains low-e argon windows; more insulation; an energy efficient furnace; a heat recovery ventilator (HRV); and a programmable thermostat, among other energy saving features.

“All of these components combine to create an energy efficient, environmentally friendly home that is more comfortable and less expensive to live in,” said Corey McBurney, Directing Manager, EnerQuality Corporation. “I’m very pleased that Reid’s Heritage Homes has made the decision to make ENERGY STAR qualification a standard in its single detached homes. They are demonstrating leadership and excellence in building.”

EnerQuality Corporation manages the ENERGY STAR for New Homes initiatve in Ontario. There are over 200 ENERGY STAR registered builders in the province, and to date over 1200 homes have been labeled ENERGY STAR qualified. The initiative is delivered with support of government and private sector partners, including Natural Resources Canada, Ontario Power Authority, Enbridge Gas Distribution, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, DuPont Tyvek, Icynene, Owens Corning, OZZ Corporation, and Union Gas.

ENERGY STAR is internationally recognized as the highest energy efficiency standard on the market, making it best-in-class. The ENERGY STAR label is earned only by homes that have met strict requirements. For more information: www.esnewhomes.ca.
